After two bus rides and two motorbike rides, I made it across the boarder into Vietnam and landed in Saigon (aka Ho Chi Minh). I checked into the Ace Home Hostel in District 1 just off of Walking Street where the street comes alive late at night! I went for a long walk, grabbed some dinner and went to bed, anxiously awaiting my friend Maryjean’s arrival the next day.
When Maryjean got into town, we walked around, got a little pampering at the spa and then met her friend Khai for happy hour and a night on the town. We landed at a fun club where we tore up the dance floor into the early morning. It was a blast and exactly the fun I needed!!
The next day, we took it a little easier with some shopping, Chinatown market, yummy fruit shakes and a delicious Mediterranean dinner. Maryjean taught me about Grab Bike, just like Uber, but on motorbikes! So fun!!! It was a great relaxing day and so much fun to catch up on all the years since when we met our freshman year at University of Oregon!
Sunday, we took a bus about two hours south to Vung Tau where Maryjean is living and teaching English. We had a fun afternoon seeing the town, hanging at the beach and swimming in the ocean. The next morning, I woke up early and went down to see the sunrise over the fishing boats….but I’m not good at sitting, so I hiked up the hill to see the lighthouse. I totally missed the turn and ended up on the other side of the hill after being barked at by the dogs and the locals😂😂! Finally, I came down and figured out how to get to the lighthouse, so I hiked up and got some more pics!
Now, moving on…..more to come!
