A Treat to be back in Almoçageme, Portugal

After a nice visit to the Azores, I parted ways with Diane and headed back to the mainland to visit my Portugal family, Luci, Charles, Theo, Florence, Luna (woof) and Monti (purrr). If you have been following me, you may remember, this is the family with a beautiful AirBnB who I spent a month with this past spring. When I decided to make my way back to Portugal, I couldn’t leave without a visit!

A pic from my last visit. I love these people!

It was nice to relax, spend time with friends, and just revisit a couple of my favorite places without rushing around to see all the sights.

When I arrived, I walked into a kitchen full of the most scrumptious fresh baked bread (Charles is a top notch baker!!!). Then, Charles and Luci had a date night planned in Lisbon, so I made my way to Roulote da Gigi, a sweet little pizza restaurant down the road…yummy, where I sat outside and enjoyed the sunset. Below you will also see some of the giant wild grasses, and the beautiful flowers around their pool. I stayed in the lower house this time, just below the pool. It was perfect!

After a good nights sleep, I couldn’t wait to walk down to Adraga Beach, one of my favorite beaches with amazing coastal hikes. First thing in the morning it was quiet, but when I returned after the hike, it was a beautiful, warm day, and lots of people had arrived to get in their sunbathing before the colder weather arrives.

Aside from the beach and hiking, I visited Cascais one evening to get a seafood risotto fix, and ended up meeting some fun folks for wine, had a happy hour with Luci at a great restaurant in a windmill, went back to Cascais with Luci to get my final seafood risotto fix, went with the family to a beautiful brunch at one of their friends houses, and played with the kids at the park.

All and all, Almoçageme was a perfect spot to end my quick re-visit to Portugal before heading back to the states to complete my level 2 sound healer training and to begin my new life!! We will see where the wind blows me next, but stay tuned for some amazing sound baths and unique retreats!

Oh, and for all my Colorado friends, I brought back some more of the cool silk clothing and accessories from my friend Graca in Portugal. Please let me know if you are interested in seeing my new stock of pants, dresses, shirts, jackets, scarves, etc!!

Hugs, Love, and Peace!

Michelle

  1. Travel often comes with its little challenges — long journeys, changing plans, and the need to find comfort in unfamiliar places — but reading your story, Michelle, really shows how those moments transform into the most rewarding experiences.

This was such a beautiful read — every little detail felt so alive! From sharing bread in a warm kitchen to quiet walks on Adraga Beach and evenings in Cascais, it all sounded like the perfect balance of rest and exploration.

It really reminded me of the Kathmandu–Pokhara–Chitwan journey in Nepal — starting in the lively, colorful streets of Kathmandu, moving to the peaceful lakeside calm of Pokhara, and ending in the quiet greenery of Chitwan. That mix of connection, nature, and soulful experiences is exactly what makes travel unforgettable.

Thank you for sharing such heartfelt moments — this really resonated with me.

    1. Thank you for the kind words. I’m so happy I touched you with my story. I’m truly honored and humbled. I also love Nepal and have visited Kathmandu and Pokhara. I’ll definitely have to add Chitwan to my list for next time. It is great you are a traveler too as all of our souls are connected as we allow our unique journeys to unfold!
